IOT (Internet of things) is beneficial for farmers because it is useful to know and control PH, soil fertility, light intensity, and soil moisture, so that we can take action effectively in the future. With this IOT, we can control what is in our own land and obtain very good quality fruit, according to export specifications/standards. Farmers can improve the quality and quantity of fruit, so as to increase income for farmers.

IOT has many benefits, such as making work easier, improving product quality, and agricultural productivity. In the past, we relied solely on pesticides to fight the Phytoptora disease. With IOT, we can take preventive measures, namely watering the leaves at dawn. If crops are infected with the disease, maintenance costs become expensive, especially for larger gardens. Now we can automatically water crops at any time through our cellphones to anticipate the disease, so that the quality of our products is superior due to the low content of pesticide residue.

As a millennial farmer, I am greatly helped by the installation of IOT in my orange orchard which has an area of approximately 300 bricks (0.42 Ha) and a population of around 500. We are greatly helped by the presence of IOT which makes work easier anywhere and anytime. I can water crops in the morning and evening via smartphone. Apart from that, we can also check information regarding PH level, light intensity, and soil moisture, so we know when to water and fertilize for optimal results.

The impact of implementing IOT is substantial for farmers like me who initially used manual methods. Now I automatically water and fertilize my crops. In addition, I obtained soil fertility data, which helps provide the right nutrients, so that they can be optimally absorbed by crops. In fact, we can save a lot of fertilizer (only 2-3 kg was used at this time, compared to 20 kg of fertilizer used before IOT). Yields also increased, reaching 2X compared to traditional methods before implementing IOT.

Dengan menggunakan IOT, kesuburan tanah dapat terkontrol, baik kondisi unsur hara seperti Nitrogen, Fosfat maupun kalium, sehingga proses pemupukan bisa disesuaikan dengan informasi dari IOT tersebut melalui sensor. Tanaman dapat tumbuh subur, produksi meningkat (40%) dan penggunaan pupuk menjadi jauh lebih irit (50%). Kami para petani merasa sangat terbantu dengan IOT ini, karena pendapatan pun meningkat >2X.
